Speaking of a leisure activity I often do with my family, the first one that comes to mind is Mahjong because my whole family are mah-jong addicts. You know, it?s probably the most popular leisure game in China. It’s kind of a tradition for me and my family to have a mah-jong day during the holidays. It’s an absolute must to keep us occupied at home.

You know, mah-jong needs four people to play. So during the holidays, my parents often invite my uncle and aunt to come over and have a mah-jong party, and we usually play by turns13. Besides, some people use mah-jong to gamble but we never do that. We usually just play mah-jong with tokens. The basic rules are pretty simple. The winner is the one who gets a mah-jong, which consists of getting all 14 mah-jong tiles into a certain combination. In my family, we have an interesting rule that the one who loses the most has to treat others to a decent14 dinner that night.

We always have a blast playing mah-jong together. The most recent time we played mah-jong was during the Spring festival holiday. I was blessed that day and won a lot of rounds. Anyway, playing mah-jong is really a wonderful way to blow off some steam, and it’s also a great bonding experience for us. It’s never about winning or losing, it’s about the fun that we enjoy together. I think that’s why mahjong is always the number one choice for entertainment in my family.
