My best friend, Jane, has a flair for language, speaking Korean super well. Learning Korean was a regular activity when she was available and alone at home, which had not lasted for a long time. Even though Korean is totally different from Chinese as well as English, she can speak Korean very frequently just with a 6-month study.

She decided to learn it 6 months ago after getting addicted to a popular Korean drama called !My Love from the Star’. Actually, Korean culture is quite popular in my country, there are hundreds of Korean dramas on different platforms, and youths are crazy for Korean celebrities, which increases the popularity of learning Korean. The main way that she used was to follow the scripts of the episodes and TV shows on YouTube. It’s a cheap and convenient method of learning. She also subscribed numerous channels and tried to practice speaking twice a week.

Her excellent Korean did impress me a lot when we were traveling around South Korea, as she could understand all the texts on the billboards on the streets. With the focus on tone and rhythm, she spoke like a native speaker. In addition, she was able to discuss various topics deeply with different Korean people, such as cashiers, landlords, and other random strangers, and most of them thought highly of her Korean and thought she was born in South Korea.
