Last summer I had a chance to help my nephew out. He is in middle school and is struggling a bit in his mathematics class, I have always been a good mathematics student and took advanced mathematics at the university, so I offered to tutor him.
My advanced math class in the university was taught by one of the best teachers I ever had- Jane, and she was a lovely woman who, if I remember well, really liked me. She was very dedicated to her students, and that was probably one of the reasons why I start to excel in mathematics.
My aunt and uncle knew I was a good math student so they also asked me if I would mind helping out my cousin. He was having a hard time wrapping his head around his junior high school maths.
I met with him once a week for about an hour to go over the subject. I aimed to introduce him to solve problems with basic operations, like addition and multiplication, and how to think about simple real-life problems using mathematics. At first, it was slow going, but, as it happened with me, an understanding of the concepts began to dawn on him. After a few months, he was turning into a math whiz . I was proud and happy I was able to help him and grateful I had such an excellent mathematics teacher at the university.
