本单元的练习形式包括了雅思听力试题中曾出现的两种题型。一种是摘要填 空题（Summary or Notes Completion )。摘要填空题是根据所听文章内容或部分段 落内容给出一段或多段留有空格的内容概要，要求考生根据所听内容填补缺少的 信息，以测试其对所听文章的理解及捕捉具体信息的能力。答案常可从所听内容 中直接找出。
另一种是正误判断题（True/False/?)。这种题要求考生根据所听文章内容对 一些陈述句的信息的正误做出判断。如果句子信息与文章内容相符，答案是T; 如果句子信息与文章内容不符，答案是F;如果文章内容不足以判断信息的正误， 就用问号（？）表示。
本单元通过大量练习帮助考生了解和熟悉考试的题型，培养考生的应试能力 及在听英语会话、讲座和报告中捕捉重要信息的能力和边听边记笔记的能力。
