2019年9月-12月雅思口语Part 1 Topic 30 Music/ Instrument

1. Do you like music?

Yes, I enjoy music very much. Music always helps me chill out325 when I’m stressed or tired. I basically listen to all kinds of music, but my favorite kinds are the songs that have engaging rhythms326 and are easy to sing-along to327.

2. Do you like to listen to music alone or with friends? (9-12 月出现的新高频题)

I like listening to music alone, actually. I have a habit of singing while listening to music. So if I listen to music with others, they might feel disturbed by my voice when I sing along. Besides, when I listen to music alone, I can just skip the song if I don’t like it. But I can’t do that when I enjoy music with others.

3. Do you think your taste in music has changed since childhood? (9-12 月出现的新高频题)

Yes, my taste in music is worlds away from what it was in my childhood. Back then, I really liked pop music. You know, I just enjoyed the mainstream stuff328. But now I really like rap. The lyrics can be pretty interesting, and the beat329 is usually strong. It’s a lot more intense than bubble-gum pop330.

4. Which kind of music don’t you like?

I really don’t like metal. I think it’s way too loud and it always gives me a headache when I listen to it. I can never hear what the singers are saying, so I can’t enjoy the lyrics, and the music is way too intense331. It actually stresses me out. I prefer softer music332, like pop or folk music333.

5. When do you listen to music?

I listen to music whenever I can. Whether I’m on the bus to school or just studying at home, it sets my mind at ease to have my favourite songs playing. I think that sometimes, it can also help me focus. So I like listening to music as much as possible.

6. How much time do you spend listening to music every day?

Well, it’s kind of hard to keep track334 I listen to music whenever I can, so it feels like I spend all my time that way. But then again335, I’m often pretty caught up with work and study. So I guess I only spend about four to five hours listening to music. It’s hard to find enough time for that.

7. What kinds of music do you like to listen to?

I love listening to lots of music genres336. But I think my favourites are folk and pop. You know, folk is just so calming; it really sets my mind at ease. But if I’m in the mood for something more upbeat337, I’ll listen to pop.

8. Have you ever been to a concert before?

Yes, I’ve seen several concerts before. Actually my friend and I just watched a rock concert. It’s literally the most exciting event I’ve ever been at. Several bands and singers I like performed in the concert and the venue was practically loud enough to wake the dead338. We really had a blast339 watching that concert.

9. Would you like to listen to music when you are working or studying?

Yes; it’s become a habit of mine to work or study while playing some music in the background. I prefer
listening to light music or jazz that can help me concentrate on my work.

10. Do you think your music taste will change?

Um…yes, I do think my taste will change. Honestly, the types of music I like now are a world away from what I used to listen to when I was a kid. So I believe my taste will evolve as I get older.

11. Do you like to buy CDs or download music?

Back when MP3 players weren’t that popular, I bought tons of CDs. But now, whenever I want to listen to some songs, I download or stream the music340 on my smartphone, which is fast and free.
