2019年9月-12月雅思口语Part 3 Topic 3 很累但要保持清醒

1. On what occasions do people need to keep awake when they feel tired?

The first one I can think of is during class. You know, when you,re a student, it’s very easy to stay up late either working on homework or just goofing off32. But when you have to wake up early the next day for school, it’s definitely a challenge32 33 to stay awake throughout the day. Another occasion is if you’re doing an all-nighter34. Sometimes people do that when they have to prepare for exams or work overtime all night.

2. How do people keep awake when they are tired?

Well, there are tons of ways to stay awake when you’re tired. The first one that comes to mind is caffeine. You know, it’s in lots of drinks, like soda and coffee. Lots of people drink those things to avoid falling asleep, or they binge on energy drinks to pull through35. You can also keep yourself awake by doing some exercise. It helps get your blood pumping36 and gives you a burst of energy37

3. When people feel tired driving a car, how can they keep themselves awake?

That happens to me sometimes when I drive. I’ve found the best way to stay awake is to listen to upbeat music38. You know, anything with a good beat can help keep you from dozing off39 Singing along40 is really important too. It might sound silly, but if you’re singing with the music, you’re more likely to keep your energy up. It gets you to focus more and helps with the drowsiness41.

4. Do people get enough sleep nowadays? Why?

I think that in general, people don’t really get enough sleep. We’re always so caught up with work or study. It seems like there’s a million things to do before we go to bed, so we end up staying up late or even pulling an all-nighter42. Besides, lots of people, especially young people, don’t value a good night’s sleep as much as they should. They don’t think it’s a big deal to lose some sleep43 for work or fun. So it’s pretty rare to see people who are totally well-rested44.

5. What kind of people lack sleep?

I suppose that young people definitely lack sleep, especially when they need to stay up late working on homework or preparing for exams. Then they have to wake up early the next day for class, so they
rarely get a good night’s sleep45. And young parents usually don’t get a lot of sleep because they’re busy taking care of their children. It5 s not like babies care about how much sleep you get. So I definitely don’t envy them46.

6. Does social media add pressure to people’s lives?

Yes, I definitely think social media adds pressure to people’s lives. Nowadays, everyone posts about what’s going on in their lives47. But they generally only post about the happy things, like new relationships or jobs. So when people see that on social media, they feel pressure to have all those things for themselves. The grass is always greener on the other side48, and social media really emphasizes that. It’s hard not to feel stressed because your life isn’t as great as someone else’s seems to be.

7. Some people say people can either be successful in career or in life. Do you agree? (How to keep the work-life balance?) ^

I don’t think that’s true at all. I mean, it takes a lot of hard work to get success in either area, let alone both49. But it’s definitely not impossible. You just have to work on maintaining a good work-life balance. I think you can do that by prioritizing50 things in your life and making sure you give each of
them enough time. Like if you don’t want to miss a family’s birthday party, then you need to schedule time for it first and not let your work overlap51 that period of time.
