I’m going to talk about one pyramid that I saw during my famil/s trip to Egypt.

The pyramids are Pharaoh’s cemeteries, where only the coffins of Pharaohs and queens are placed. As soon as I saw the building, I was shocked by its magnificent and stately outlook. The feeling was totally different from the time when I saw pyramids⁵ pictures in my textbook. It was so grand that I immediately understand how advanced Egypt was at that time.

At the bottom of the pyramid was a square. Each side was several hundred meters long and the building was more than one hundred meters high. According to my tour guide, it was made of 2.3 million stones. Each stone weighed 25 tons in general and the largest one weighed 30 tons. And nowadays people are still wondering from where and how the workers moved the stones. What’s more wonderful is that all the stones were piled up completely by their own weight without any types of adhesion. Moreover, the four slopes of the tower were facing the East, West, North and South, with the same inclination angle, which showed the precision of the construction.

The most interesting part is that there were several holes in the Pharaoh’s tomb to the surface of the pyramid. Besides being used for ventilation, it was also used as the “soul” of pharaohs and queens to go out for “free activities”.

The reason for me to like the building is that, it not only represents the advanced technology of ancient Egypt, but also shows the rich imagination, efforts and brilliant intelligence of Egyptian, those are spirits that are worth respectation.

1.Do you think office building’s appearance is important? Why?

Well, as for an office building, I think the in-house facility is more important. Because the function of it is to provide a ideal and effective working environment for people, instead of attracting people’s attention by its lovely appearance.

2.Do you like traditional buildings? Why?

I love traditional buildings, because it’s a part of the country’s culture and history. The architect can always learn a lot from a traditional building form its design and structure.

3.Which one do you prefer, traditional buildings or modem buildings? Why?

I prefer modern buildings. Because modem buildings have more advanced design and technology, for example, drainage facility and security facility.

4.Do you prefer tall buildings or short buildings?

I prefer tall buildings, not only because the tall buildings will have a better view, but also because that the tall buildings can save our land resource. Tall buildings can have different functions and provide space for various departments or companies, which is very beneficial in excessive-priced housing society.

5.Do building need to look the same? Why or why not?

No. If all buildings in our city look the same, the city will look very boring. And the buildings lose their features. Different buildings have different functions. Some are office buildings to provide working place for companies, while some are tourist spot, which need good appearance to attract the tourism.
